(Walt Disney Studios, 1940) Original concept storyboard drawing by Jules Engel for Fantasia, which depicts a group of thistle dancers twirling on water, their movements creating a small capillary wave during the musical segment, 'Waltz of the Flowers,' the final sequence from the film's gorgeous Nutcracker Suite. Accomplished in pastel on a black 7.75 x 6.5 sheet of artist paper, which is signed below in pencil by Engel. The total image measures 7.25 x 5.25, and is framed to an overall size of 12.5 x 11.5. In fine condition. A hauntingly beautiful concept piece from an early Disney masterpiece.

Jules Engel was an American artist, animator, and filmmaker (1909–2003) who was the founding director of the experimental animation program at the California Institute of the Arts. During his tenure with Disney, he worked on drawings and backgrounds for Bambi and Fantasia, and then later became the studio's top colorist for films like Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland.
