<B>Judge Learned Hand Typed Letter Signed and Original Envelope</B></I>, on United States Court House letterhead, 11" x 8.5", New York, March 22, 1951. This letter to Robert O. McNiel of Roanoke, Virginia, reads in full "My dear Sir: I have your letter of the 20th and it gives me great pleasure to acknowledge it, as you ask me to do, by writing a letter signed by myself. / Sincerely yours," signed "<I>Learned Hand</B></I>". In 1924 Learned Hand was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit by President Calvin Coolidge. In 1951, he attained senior status, a position he held until his death ten years later. Very fine with original folds.
