<B>Juan Jose de Echeveste Autograph Letter Signed</B></I>, four integral pages with writing on pages one through three, 6.25" x 8", New Orleans, March 22, 1799, in Spanish. Browning, a couple of small holes, and wear at the folds. Otherwise, near fine. A beautifully written letter by the author of the first California code, the <I>Reglamento Provisional </B></I>of 1773. Echeveste based his <I>reglamento</B></I> on the knowledge and experience gained as the purchasing agent in Mexico City for the two Californias.
