Jovel, J. Roberto. NUMISMATIC HISTORY OF EL SALVADOR IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY. VOLUME 1. Numismatics International, Dallas. 1999. 4to. iv, 99, (2) pages. Original blue cloth, gilt. Tables. b&w coin photos throughout. Fine. This book describes the historical, economic and political conditions under which El Salvador s numismatic history developed in the Nineteenth Century, covering from the time of the breaking up of the Central American Federation circa 1841 to the end of the Century. El Salvador suffered from chronic scarcity of coins due to the lack of a minting facility and the counterfeiting of coins and cobs, which hindered trade and development. Coins from neighboring and other countries were used for many years, until The Central American Mint, limited, was established in 1892 which began producing official coins. The Author conducted a thorough search of factual information in all domestic and foreign depositories, on which to base this detailed historical account. Lot weight: 1 lbs 4oz. Subject(s): El Salvadoran Coinage.
