Joslyn Breechloading Conversion of an 1863 Springfield Musket, marked ''1628'' below breechblock, .50 cal., 35-1/2'' barrel, finished in the white, full-length walnut stock with three barrel bands and cleaning rod. Lockplate marked ''U.S. Springfield 1864'', with standard musket sights. Considered to be the first true breechloading cartridge weapon made in substantial quantity by a national armory, with 3007 mfg'd. Condition is about fine with light general carbon spotting to bright surfaces. Stock with minor scuffs and scratches, more pronounced to flat area near lockplate screws. Crisp action, fine bore.
