French actress who retired in 1828 having lost her beautiful voice to illness (1789–1870). ALS in French, signed “Mainville Fodor,” one page, 8 x 10, January 10, 1821. Letter on the management of the Theatre Royale Italy in Paris with the rejection of the role of Griselda. In part (translated): "Griselda is my favorite work, it is through it that I started my career…in a time when my health is low…such roles as the Countess of Figaro, Agnese and secret marriage, I fear I can not sing.” Addressed on the reverse of the second integral page in her own hand. Intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), a block of toning to the lower right, and some foxing and soiling to the right edge, otherwise fine condition.
