Joseph Stalin signs a WWII wartime order as People's Commissar of Defense, concerning the creation of a new position of Vice Commander of the Front Artillery for Russia's expanding military. The order, typed in Russian, is signed in red wax pencil and translates, ''In order to improve the fighting abilities of artillery, to strengthen the control upon artillery works in the armies, as well as to raise new personnel of Artillery High Commander's staff, I ORDER: To create a position of Vice Commander of Artillery Front in the Board of Commanders Staff of the Front Artillery (with monthly fee 2,400 rubles) and a car…People's Commissar or Defense Marshal of the Soviet Union, [signed] J. Stalin.'' Numerals are written in blue ink in an unknown hand on the letterhead, and verso is rubber stamped. Single-page document measures 8'' x 11.5''. A horizontal crease along the bottom margin and small tears along the left edge, else near fine. Very rare WWII document signed by the Soviet dictator.
