From the John Coffee Hays, Applewhite-Clark Collection. Ambrotype of Joseph Moravia Moss, San Francisco banker and business associate of Hays. Moss built a fortune in banking, ice and fur importing, railroad building and telegraph and gas utilities. He served on the University of California Board of Regents and was the President of the Board of Trustees of the California State Asylum for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind (precursor of the California School for the Deaf and Blind).
