British surgeon (1827–1912) who pioneered the practice of sterile surgery, one of the most important medical advances of the day. ALS signed “Lister,” one page, 3.25 x 5.5, personal letterhead, May 25, 1898. Letter to Henry Lucas. In full: “I thank you for your letter. I know of nothing to prevent my attending the interesting ceremonial on June 21st.” Matted and framed with a seated portrait of Lister and the original mailing envelope panel, addressed in Lister’s hand, to an overall size of 15 x 15.25. In fine condition.
