Film director, screenwriter, and producer (1909–1993) best known as the writer-director of the Oscar-winning All About Eve. AQS, signed “Good luck to all—Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Bedford, N.Y. 10506,” on an 8 x 5.5 card. Mankiewicz paraphrases Bette Davis’ famed quotation from All About Eve. In full: “’Fasten your seatbelts—it’s going to be a bumpy life!’” In fine condition. According to the consignor, he obtained the quotation from Mankiewicz through the mail in the 1980s, sending his request on school letterhead. The filmmaker called the school to make sure that the request was legitimate.
