Notorious and immensely unpopular Union general (1814–1879), Hooker was criticized for his erratic leadership, heavy drinking, poor sense of diplomacy, and the freewheeling atmosphere of his headquarters. Ink signature, “Joseph Hooker, Brig. Gnl.,” on an off-white 5 x 3.5 album page. In very good condition, with moderate areas of toning with one swatch affecting his last name and beginning of his rank.
