The first documented owner of this work, Benjamin Lee Guinness, was the son of the Irish brewer, philanthropist and art collector, Edward Cecil Guinness, the 1st Earl of Iveagh, who in 1927 bequeathed Kenwood House and its impressive collection of paintings to the British nation.
