Joseph Heller Typed Note
“Winners will be notified after the auction ends and once all bids have been processed to determine the winner for each lot”
Typed note by ''Catch-22'' author Joseph Heller, where he reflects upon the characters in his famous novel. In his typical doublespeak, Heller writes, ''PS. Yossarian isn't Jewish and was not intended to be; on the other hand, no effort was expended to make him anything else. He is largely an extension of my own sensibility, and I am. Once, however, you judge him along these lines, you would have to do the same for those characters that are 'doubles' or sympathetic reflections--including the Chaplain, especially the Chaplain, I would say, if I were an outsider trying to come to that kind of a conclusion. JH''. Written upon Heller's personal stationery with a few cross-outs in the letter made by hand. Rest of letter not present. Page measures 4'' x 5.75''. Includes original envelope measuring 6'' x 4'', postmarked 17 August 1972 and hand-addressed to Professor James Nagel of Northeastern University, who was preparing a collection of critical essays on ''Catch-22,'' published in 1974. Near fine.
