Interesting autograph letter signed by Joseph Heller, who here mentions ''Catch-22'' and his struggles recovering from Guillain-Barré syndrome. Letter dated 16 January 1984 to James Nagel reads in full, ''Dear Jim: No chance at all of our getting together this month. I've got a lot of catching up to do--occupational, therapeutic, financial--and don't want to be diverted from any of the disciplines I've set for myself. Physically, I'm improving steadily and am able to take care of myself, but I've a long way to go yet to attain normal muscular strength. I work at it and see the benefits. About Catch-22 I doubt very much that I can give you anything new anymore in the way of knowledge. You undoubtedly know more about the book and the events surrounding it than I do. For me, it's going back thirty years to its beginning, and I would not trust my memory. If you find yourself with questions of fact to be answered simply, I'll help if I can. Beyond that, your guess will be as good as mine…better in fact. Regards to Gwen. Joe Heller''. Two page letter on single sheet of Heller's personal stationery measures 5.75'' x 7.75''. Accompanied by original handwritten envelope. Fine condition.
