American lawyer and diplomat (1832–1917) who participated in several notable cases in the 19th century and who served as ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1899 to 1905. ALS, one page both sides, 5.25 x 8.25, June 20, 1893. Choate writes a gentleman named Seward. In part: “I am sorry not to have got this into your hands earlier in the day but it proved to be a little larger and more complicated than was expected…Please examine it carefully tonight, and if you wish to see me tomorrow in regard to it I will wait upon you promptly.” In very good condition, with creasing and wrinkling.
