American forger (1887-1950?) who forged letters from American luminaries. Joseph Cosey forgery of a document signed by Benjamin Franklin, one page, 7.75 x 6.25, September 2, 1787. Forged pay order to Treasurer David Rittenhouse. In part: “Pay to the Honourable Samuel Hill, Esquire, or order, Twenty Pounds and Five Shillings.” In very good condition, with small old tape remnant to top edge, small split along one fold, and light mottled overall toning.
