Join the Air Service and Serve in France (3) Join the Air Service and Serve in France
Join the Air Service and Serve in France (Lot of 3) 37" x 25" Artist: J. Paul Verrees. This poster is one of the more scarce prints in the entire sale. Recruitment posters are often the most popular amongst collectors, and in the same vein, recruitment posters for specialized units are even more desirable. This poster was printed for the Army Air Service and is one of very few. The Army Air Service was a forerunner to the United States Air Force and was established upon the United States' entry into World War I. This poster depicts two servicemen standing in front of a flying deHavilland DH-4. The plane was the workhorse of the air service during WWI. It was dubbed the "Liberty Plane" and was the only plane to see combat on the American side throughout the entire war. This poster is special not only because it depicts recruitment for a small and rare unit of the military but also because it shows the DH-4 biplane, the bomber which lined the skies over Europe for the United States. A fantastic rare find!

Condition:
Poster 1-Good; severe tears on top and bottom edges into the graphic. Still will display nicely once framed!
Poster 2-Fair; torn into two halves down y-axis, small/minor tears on edges.
Poster 3-Fine; creases on x-axis at several points, one crease on y-axis, very nice!
