Johnson Automatics Model 1941 Semi-Automatic Rifle

These rifles were designed by Melvin Johnson in 1939. This design was tested alongside the M1 Garand with the Garand proving victorious over the Johnson in 1941. Some Marine Corps Parachute and Raider Battalions acquired Johnson Model 1941s as a war expedient model and used them in the early island hopping campaign in the South Pacific during 1943. Having several unique features such as an easily removable barrel for storage in a parachute jump bag and a rotary magazine which held ten rounds and could easily and quickly be loaded with either a single or multiple rounds. The receiver is marked with the standard five line patent dates followed by the four line "JOHNSON AUTOMATICS/MODEL OF 1941" logo, address and the serial number "9158". The barrel is marked on the front of the barrel support "30-06/41" and with an "S", the lug is marked "1655J" and the barrel is marked "1655J". The bolt is stamped with the serial number "B6757". The right rear side of the receiver is stamped with a small five-pointed star over an inverted triangle with "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO." inside. The right side of the rear sight is stamped "METERS" with "M2" stamped on the left side. It is fitted with a replacement two-piece walnut stock with a serrated steel buttplate.

Very fine, 80% plus of the dark green parkerized finish remains with areas of brown patina, high edge and handling wear, scattered pitting under the finish and scattered minor scratches. The reoiled walnut stock is fine with a few scattered dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
