Johnny Cash Signed Book To Gary Gilmore! A
Johnny Cash Signed Book To Gary Gilmore! A unique piece of Johnny Cash memorabilia with an interesting yet grim relation to a darker moment in American history, presented here is an original hardcover printing of Cash's autobiography, "Man In Black", signed and inscribed by Cash to notorious serial killer Gary Gilmore. Notoriously linked to Cash through his actions, it was noted that Gilmore, a passionate fan of Cash's music, played his Johnny Cash records to ease his nerves prior to committing his brutal murders. Before his historic execution by firing squad on January 17, 1977, Gilmore requested a signed copy of Cash's autobiography from The Man in Black himself. Complying with the request -- less than two weeks before Gilmore's execution was carried out -- Cash writes on the opening blank page of the book, "To Gary Gilmore, Good Luck, Johnny Cash, Hendersonville, Tenn - Jan. 5, 1976 [sic]." Incorrectly dated by Cash as a result of the recent New Year, accompanying the book is the original mailing envelope to Gilmore from House of Cash, postmarked January 6, 1977. Unfortunately for Gilmore, the prison would not allow him to receive the book and forwarded the package to Gilmore's family. Some expected wear to the envelope from mailing, however the book remains well preserved and stands in overall very fine condition. 2 Items Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
