English satirist (1738–1819) who wrote under the pseudonym ‘Peter Pindar.’ Unsigned autograph poem, three pages, 7.25 x 5.75, dated “Jan. 17–7.” Wolcot pens a 13-line poem entitled “The Bottle & The Toper.” In part: “A Toper caught up a large bottle…says he you hold a pottle / and are the greatest foe I have / Last night I nearly broke my neck / plunged in a pond was near a wreck / Scoundrel you'll put me in the grave / 'Sir' Quoth the Bottle to the Toper / I really am no interloper…I hold a good & generous wine / & make wit & wisdom shine / The fount of health if well folks use me / and only wound when folks abuse me.” In fine condition, with a central vertical fold and some light creases.
