John Wayne's Used Lariat Case. Tin lariat case, 18 inches in diameter, with BATJAC Prod., Inc. on the side and a metal label on top, "Wardrobe J. Wayne No. 2177." Inside is a coiled lariat which was used by Wayne in various productions. The lariat and case were given to Andrew Yochem by John "Bear" Hudkins, who got it from John Wayne. Yochem owned a ranch that supplied horses to Hudkins Brothers Stables in Glendale, which supplied most of the horses, saddles, tack, wagons, stages, and other props used by Wayne's company, Batjac Productions, Inc., as well as numerous other studios and production companies. Wayne and other actors used to visit the Yochem ranch and go hunting with Andrew. "Bear" Hudkins worked with John Wayne on numerous productions and received a number of used and personal items from Wayne over the years. This lariat was one of the items which Hudkins obtained from Wayne and which was subsequently acquired by Yochem. A letter written by JO Yochem, Andrew Yochem's son, written June 17, 2007, includes all of the above information.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 2,000.
