Screen legend John Wayne's personally owned costume vest from the hit 1968 film, ''The Green Berets'' which Wayne directed and starred in, and which was released at the height of Vietnam. Vest was most likely used onscreen, as most all of the props and costumes, even weapons, used during filming were provided by the U.S. Army. Wayne wrote to President Johnson seeking his advice and asking for support in adapting Robin Moore's book with the same title to the screen. Apparently, Wayne received support from the U.S. Department of Defense, which lent all kinds of supplies and costumery. Vest measures 39'' x 17'' with a ''Bullseye / Bill / Water Repellent'' tag sewn to top left corner of vest. Tan in color with green straps. includes a COA from John Wayne Enterprises. Near fine condition.
