<B>John Watson Davis Original Book Illustration Art Signed</B></I> "<I>J. Watson Davis</B></I>", one page, 6.8" x 11", np, nd. John W. Davis worked for over half a century as an illustrator; he did numerous religious additions, Zane Grey novels, editions of <I>Sherlock Holmes,</B></I> and <I>Bluebeard.</B></I> Davis' best work were the religious pieces he did depicting missionaries, and other subjects pertaining to Christianity. This particular piece is from the book, <I>The Prince of the House of David.</B></I> It appears on page 10; and as a bonus to the buyer, an actual copy of this book comes with the original art! The art is inscribed as: "<I>The Prince of the House of David - Page 10 - I stood with my hands crossed upon my bosom and my head reverently bowed, for in the absence of man and his voice I believed angels were all around in heavenly hosts, the guardian armies of this wondrous city of David -</B></I>". The drawing has been done in lovely contrasting shades of black ink with very light white enhancements on the suns rays and the figure with clasped hands. It is in very good condition; holes on all four corners from tacks or pushpins; light overall soiling; right corner missing, not affecting picture; light warpage of the hard card stock backing. The accompanying book is in very fine condition.
