TLS, one page, 5.5 x 9, personal letterhead, September 8, 1914. Letter to F. H. Green, commenting on the vocation of teaching. in full: "Thanking you for your polite letter, there is no work more important than that of teaching. It is serious work, because the impress of the teacher is left on the pupil during a lifetime. Someone has said 'What the Universities teach to-day, is the belief of the country tomorrow.' To those who expect to devote their lives to teaching others it is all important that they prepare themselves conscientiously for a noble task with a realization that the future of those committed to their care rests largely with the teacher. On the other hand, it is a wonderful gratification to know that one has had a share in training and developing men and women who prove to be a credit to their country and to their instructors. I wish each one of your student body great success in the patriotic and splendid work to which they are dedicating their lives." In fine condition.
