Union naval officer who was killed in action when his steamer Tecumseh was sunk in Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo by Giles Bishop of New London, Connecticut, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ink, “A. T. Mahan, with most sincere regards, J. W. Kelly.” In fine condition, with lightly trimmed left edge and a bit of mild toning.
