John W. Campbell Jr.: Association Who Goes There
John W. Campbell, Jr.: Association Copy of Who Goes There? with Typed Letter Signed by Campbell Laid In (Chicago: Shasta Publishers, 1948), first edition, 230 pages, blue cloth with gilt lettering on spine, 12mo (5.25" x 7.75"), dust jacket. Cover illustration by Hannes Bok. Campbell originally wrote the seven stories contained in Who Goes There? under the pseudonym Don Stuart. A typed letter signed from John Campbell to George Locke is laid in. In this letter, Campbell writes in detail about the "'Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court' theme" that is "always an attractive one in science-fiction." The letter measures 7.25" x 10.5", and is in fine condition, with minimal wear to the top and bottom edges. The book presented here is near fine, with very minimal age-toning on the textblock edge. The dust jacket is also very good, with minimal edge and fold wear, and light toning to the panels. A triangular bookplate on the front pastedown reveals this book to have belonged to prolific author L. Sprague de Camp. This book was previously sold in the George Locke sale at Sotheby's. A great association copy essential to any serious science fiction collection.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
