John Tyler document signed as Senator of Virginia, dated 6 February 1835. Countersigned by Virginia Congressman Henry A. Wise, document is addressed to Secretary of the Navy M. Dickerson and reads: ''We Cheerfully enclose to you the written recommendations, from citizens of the highest respectability in Williamsburg Virginia...of Edmond C. Murdaugh, who desires to obtain a Midshipsman & Warrants in the Navy. If the appointment can be given him it will be gratifying to us, and in addition to this we refer to a letter of Hon. B. Bussett, of the same place, now on the files of the department. Respectfully, Henry A. Wise / John Tyler''. Document on one page measures 8'' x 9.75''. Uneven left edge, tape residue to verso and minor toning. Very good. Also includes a 7.25'' x 10'' portrait print of Tyler.
