American poet (1750-1831) whose poem M’Fingal earned him recognition as one of the most important American political satirists of the Revolutionary War period. Partly-printed DS, one page both sides, 6 x 4.25, September 16, 1791. State of Connecticut treasury document issued by George Pitkin as Clerk of the Hartford County Superior Court, ordering payment to Trumbull for his service as state attorney for Hartford County. Signed on the reverse by Trumbull to acknowledge receipt of payment. In fine condition, with a typical central circular cancellation hole (not affecting signature).
