The Nobel Prize-winning author inscribes the front free endpaper: ''For Hank Pearson / with best wishes / John Steinbeck / New York 1953''. This first edition in its original dustjacket is a compilation of six of his moving stories: ''Tortilla Flat,'' ''The Red Pony,'' ''Of Mice and Men,'' ''The Moon is Down,'' ''Cannery Row'' and ''The Pearl.'' Bound in brick red cloth boards with black lettering. Top edge yellow. Original grey and orange unclipped dustjacket is near fine. Book has small areas of discoloratioan on signature page and rear free endpaper, else fine.
