Framed hand-colored engraving titled General View of the Coliseum, after the original drawing by John Smith and engraved by J. Emes, Plate 26 from Select Views in Italy. This 19th-century topographical print captures a panoramic view of the Roman Colosseum in its romantic, partially ruined state. In the foreground, a couple is depicted seated among ancient masonry, emphasizing the picturesque nature of the scene. The image is bordered by marbled matting and presented in a period gilt wood frame. A detailed explanation is mounted to the verso, including provenance from Tower Park Gallery and references to the original publication in London, 1794.
