John Severin - Two-Fisted Tales #38, Complete 7-p
John Severin - Two-Fisted Tales #38, Complete 7-page Story, "Warpath" Original Art (EC, 1954). When Harvey Kurtzman changed his EC workload to accommodate the new monthly schedule for Mad, the editorship of Two-Fisted Tales was delegated to John Severin. Severin recalled, "I decided, what the heck, maybe I could have some fun with it, because I like all kinds of adventure stories. It's a variety book; I wouldn't have to keep it a war thing. I didn't want to keep doing the same Korean war thing over and over." John Severin's uncanny talent for drawing was showcased in each of the title's many period pieces. Regarding "Warpath," Severin has recalled, "Cheyenne Hawk was our attempt to bring American Eagle back from Prize Comics Western over to Two-Fisted Tales, because we really enjoyed American Eagle and his sidekick, Laughing Dog." The art for "Warpath" was drawn on a small scale, with each page's image area measuring approximately 9" x 12". Severin still manages to pack the thriller with incredible detail and rich visual textures. Except for a small stain in panel two of page one, the art is in Excellent condition.
