John Severin - Frontline Combat #7, "The Caves" page 2 Original Art (EC, 1952). Few comic book artists could match John Severin's unparalleled artistry at illustrating war yarns. John was noted for his verisimilitude. Fellow war genre legend Russ Heath remarked in a recent Jim Amash Alter-Ego interview, "His stuff was always right on, even during the EC years. Like the Civil War -- he even researched the pattern in clothes so he'd know where all the seams were, I said, 'I give up! I give up! I'm not doing that!'" Harvey Kurtzman's layouts and story pacing are evident in the third panel tier as the panel focus "zooms in" on the Japanese soldier. Kurtzman also strayed from the usual EC procedure by having the pages hand-lettered, rather than using the fabled "Leroy lettering" system. The image are of the page is 13" x 18", and the art is in Excellent condition. Be sure to bid on this dynamite page!
