Barrack Master of New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1776, Autograph Letter Signed,</B></I> "<I>John Schuurman</B></I>", one page, 8.5" x 12.75", New Brunswick, New Jersey, April 12, 1776 "<I>To the Honourable the Committee of Safety for the Provence [sic] of New Jersey</B></I>" informing them of his appointment and "<I>...in Obedience to said Appointment I have taken the Care & burden upon me until now. but finding it from the business incombant [sic] on me... So Inconvenient to Serve as Barrack masters that I Can not attend it Properly Without Incurring Either the one or the other. Perticular [sic] in the bad Situation the Barracks is in which Causes double the trouble it Would do if it was in Order. I therefore Gentlemen pray that you will Except [sic] of my Resignation...</B></I>". Schuurman also held the position of baggage master for New Jersey.
