Union general (1831–1906) who served as army commander in Sherman’s Atlanta campaign and who later became General in Chief of the army. ALS signed “J. M Schofield,” one page, 8.5 x 11, The Florida East Coast Hotel System letterhead, June 18, 1899. Letter to Mrs. Schofield in Minneapolis. In part: “Your letter…addressed to my old residence in Washington, reached me yesterday. It is now more than three years since I retired from active service…I do not suppose I can have much influence there. But I have written to your Representative…a letter which I hope may be of some assistance.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a uniform shade of light toning.
