John Romita, Sr. - Original Cover Art to Spidey Super-Stories #18 (Marvel, 1976). Throughout much of the 1970s, legendary Spider-Man artist John Romita, Sr. contributed a run of truly spectacular covers to Spidey Super-Stories, a rare educational off-shoot published by Marvel in conjunction with the PBS "Electric Company" series that was designed to help very young children learn to read by presenting simplistic stories starring our favorite Web-Slinger. Offered here is a spectacular (and slightly unnerving) image, as Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, crushes a scale model model of two buildings that somewhat resemble the World Trade Center towers. Interestingly enough, in the final printed version of this cover, the elements of the window, curtains, and wall were removed, making it seem as if the Kingpin was looming over the actual city. As with many of the Spidey Super-Stories covers, this has been inked on vellum, and then taped to a slightly larger Marvel strathmore board. Very clean, with virtually no white-out, and signed by Romita in the lower left corner. 11" x 17". Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
