John Romita, Don Heck, and Mike Esposito - Original Title Splash for The Amazing Spider-Man #63 (Marvel, 1968). Cloaked in shadows and pounded by sheets of rain, the Vulture perches on an outcropping, contemplating the death of a certain meddling Web-Slinger... Ruthless and ravenous, this bird of prey is ready to strike. This vivid image, while skillfully composed to invoke fear and dread, will more likely spawn electric thrills of recognition to a generation of readers for whom there was no greater pleasure on earth than a Lee/Romita Spider-Man comic book. The splash is the product of three talented artists, and while we do not know the exact nature of the Romita/Heck collaboration, we suspect that the main figure of the Vulture was penciled entirely by Romita, with Heck providing the background pencils, while Esposito (utilizing his Mickey Demeo pen-name) tied it all together with his strong, smooth inks. A stunning piece that any True Believer would be proud to own. 10.5" x 16". Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
