Partly-printed DS, signed “J. Q. Adams,” one page, 7.75 x 10.75, November 16, 1818. Department of State circular issued to the editors of the Vermont Republican newspaper. In part: “Your Newspaper has been selected as one among the number designated for publishing the Acts, Resolutions, Treaties, &c. which may be approved and ratified during the Second Session of the Fifteenth Congress.” A note at the bottom in another hand reads, in part: “You will not fail to observe, in publishing the Laws, Resolutions, and Treaties, all the requisites prescribed by the act of Congress of 20 April, 1818—‘to provide for the publication of the Laws of the United States, and for other purposes.’” Expected document wear, several small tears, some scattered staining, and irregularly trimmed edges, otherwise fine condition. An interesting document from the early decades of the new American federal government.
