Signed book: Oration on the life and character of Gilbert Motier de Lafayette, Delivered at the request of both houses of the Congress of the United States, before them, in the House of Representatives at Washington, on the 31st December, 1834. First edition. Washington: Gales and Seaton, 1835. Hardcover bound in full green morocco, 5.5 x 8.75, 94 pages. Signed and inscribed on a slip tipped to the title page in ink, "Samuel F. Vinton from John Quincy Adams." Adams was out of the country when this booklet was published, so he pre-inscribed slips for the printer to tip in and present to his friends. Autographic condition: fine. Book condition: VG-/None, with the front board almost entirely detached, rubbing to boards, and a chip to the head of the spine; interior clean.
