War-dated ALS signed “Jno. Pope,” one page, 8 x 7.5, embossed Head-Quarters, Department of the Northwest, Milwaukee, Wisconsin letterhead, January 12, 1864. In a letter to General S. Hamilton, Pope writes, in part: “I have just received your note of yesterday. Myers & myself will go up on Monday unless something happens which I do not now anticipate—I have been confined to my house for several days with influenza and I am not yet quite recovered but I hope with confidence to be with you on Monday.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, light creasing and toning, a few small tears along the edges, and a pencil notation to the top edge.
