Composer and bandleader (1854–1932) whose marches take a place among the most familiar works in the history of American music. In 1892, Sousa formed his own band and toured throughout the United States and Europe, in the process becoming one of the best-known musical personalities of the day. Eye-catching vintage sepia glossy 8 x 10 photo of Sousa in his band uniform, bedecked with medals, signed vertically in ink “John Philip Sousa, 1930.” In very good condition, with scattered dings, creases, and surface impressions, and slight silvering to darker areas. A handsome and dignified pose.
