Slip signed, ''John Philip Sousa'' in black ink. Sousa is known for his expert conducting of marching bands, and in particular for the National March of the United States, ''The Stars and Stripes Forever''. He also invented a proprietary brass instrument, the sousaphone. Accompanied by the original envelope in which the autograph was mailed, along with the returned fan letter requesting it. Envelope is postmarked 23 June 1930. Slip measures 3.5'' x 2.5''. Light stain to upper right corner, else near fine.
