Letter to the Bobbs, Merrill Co., in full: "Many thanks for your greetings of the season and I hope all of us will have a happy and prosperous year. It was very good of you to send the Bacon Essays and I assure you that I thoroughly appreciate your kindness. I have been up to my neck with work and have just finished what I believe to be the best opera I have ever written." Sousa adds a brief postscript: "We are off on a long tour opening tomorrow at the Hippodrome." In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges and light show-through from old mounting residue on the reverse.
