<B>John Penn ("The American") Document Signed and Autograph Letter Signed.</B></I> John Penn was the son of William and Hannah Callowhill Penn, and their only child born in North America and therefore was called "The American." His parents had arrived in the colony the December preceding his birth January 31, 1699, after a hazardous voyage across the Atlantic The DS is signed, "<I>John Penn.</B></I>" One page, 10" x 8", Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, August 6, 1773. Addressed to John Lukens to survey 300 acres of land granted to Mordecai Holt. The ALS is signed, "<I>J. Penn.</B></I>" Two pages, 7.25" x 8.75", Spring Gardens, Pennsylvania, Friday, n.d. Addressed to Philip A. Hanrott, he speaks about a letter written by William Penn (his grandfather) and wants the recipient to read the book sent to him about it. The postscript in the letter reads, "<I>You know my sister feared the impression on the Americans might be less favorable for my grandfather's statement.</B></I>" <BR><BR>The DS is in fine condition; usual folds are present; one piece is completely separated from the other; edges slightly worn.
