TLS signed “John,” one page, 5.75 x 8.75, October 30, 1957. Letter to "Swanie," his agent H. N. Swanson, in full: "I received your telegram about Aldrich. I did not reply by wire because I do not know what his idea involves. I am against letting him give me a note. That, in effect, would be a producer borrowing from a writer, and I not only disapprove but I believe there is a Guild position against it. Get the cash, and if it isn't forthcoming, that's too bad. The next time he asks for an extension I want you to reply by asking for a bigger percentage of the picture. I enclose a Guild bill, which please play. I also enclose a self-explanatory card. I know that you are taking full advantage of the enormous success of Pal Joey to get out there and sell other O'Hara basic properties. Butterfield 8, as you know, has just come out in a new Modern Library paperback, and should go for around $220,000 and a percentage . A Family Party just got a rave review in the London Time Sunday Literary Supplement—but of course you knew that. I would just as soon put the money in that little Westwood bank of yours, but you must get it for me first." Pencil notations done in a secretarial hand. In fine condition, with a tiny hole in the left margin.
