He began playing professional baseball in 1890 and was the star third baseman of the renowned Baltimore Orioles of the National League. McGraw managed the Orioles in 1899, and after the team was dropped by the National League, he helped organize the American League. As manager (1902-32) of the New York Giants of the National League, the fiery, efficient McGraw became one of the outstanding figures of baseball. He led the Giants to 10 pennants and three World Series victories. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937. Rare vintage fountain pen signature, “John J. McGraw,” on an off-white 5 x 1.25 slip affixed to an identical size card. In very good condition, with trimmed bottom edge resulting in partial loss to a few letters, scattered light toning and foxing, and a small tear to right edge affecting last latter of signature. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from JSA.
