Handwritten poem by John Masefield, signed and inscribed at the bottom, "For Grace H. Macurdy, from John Masefield, 16th Jan. 1916." The one-page poem, penned on an off-white 5 x 6.5 sheet of Vassar College stationery, is entitled along the top: "Stanzas from 'August, 1914,' once called 'Lollingdon Hill.'" The poem, in part: "How still this quiet valley is tonight / By an intense glow the evening falls / Bringing not darkness but a deeper light / Among the stocks a partridge covey calls." In fine condition.
