Scarce Foyles Bookshop program for a luncheon honoring John Lennon and the publication of his book, In His Own Write, held at London's Dorchester Hotel on April 23, 1964, measures 5 x 8.5, signed on the front in blue felt tip by singer Helen Shapiro and in blue ballpoint by Welsh comedian Harry Secombe. In fine condition, with a central horizontal fold and light handling wear. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. A month after the book was published, John Lennon departed the set of A Hard Day's Night to attend this celebratory luncheon in honor of his book. When he was offered a toast, Lennon raised a glass and delivered a brief speech: 'Thank you all very much. You've got a lucky face.' When he was asked why he didn't speak at the event, Lennon responded: 'Give me another fifteen years. I might make a speech. Not yet.' In His Own Write was Lennon's first published work and the first solo effort of any of the Beatles.
