<B>John Langdon Autograph Letter Signed</B></I> "<I>John Langdon,</B></I>" one page, 8" x 9.75". Portsmouth, N.H., February 11, 1807. Integral leaf addressed by Langdon to "<I>His Excellency/ Christor. Greenup/ Governor of the State of/ Kentucky/ Frankfort</B></I>" with faint Portsmouth postmark. Signer of the Constitution John Langdon, as governor of New Hampshire, acknowledges receipt of Kentucky Governor Christopher Greenup's letter enclosing "<I>a copy of several resolutions agreed to by the Legislature of the State of Kentucky which I shall with pleasure lay before the Legislature of this State…The late conduct of our Sister Western States must have given general satisfaction throughout the Union.</B></I>" Christopher Greenup served as Governor of Kentucky from 1804-1808. Langdon was Governor of New Hampshire from 1785-1786, 1788-1789, 1805-1809, and 1810-1812. On April 6, 1789, John Langdon was elected the first President pro tempore of the Senate in order that the Senate might organize to count the electoral vote for president and vice president of the United States. John Adams wasn't sworn in as Vice President and President of the Senate until April 21, 1789. Tipped to an 8.75" x 11" sheet.
