This beautiful example was manufactured in 1949. The left side of the receiver is engraved with two dogs pointing at a flying grouse. The right side is engraved with four ducks flying over a marsh. The signature of John Kusmit "J.K." is engraved on the left side at the lower rear. There are wedges of floral scroll at the breech end of the barrel. The serial numbers, proofmarks, arrow on the receiver extension and the choke marking have been inlaid in gold. There is a gold wire inlaid border around the outside edge of the receiver on both sides. There is a pigeon engraved on the receiver extension. The barrel has a red bead front sight, a steel mid bead sight, is choked full, has a 2 3/4 inch chamber and a rounded square post rib with a matted duckbill on top of the receiver. Mounted on a Fleur-de-Lis pattern checkered, beautifully figured extended walnut forearm and a pistol grip stock with a plastic grip cap and a checkered plastic buttplate. Master embellished by Winchester engraver John Kusmit, 95% plus of the blue finish remains with some cycling and minute high edge wear. The barrel band and receiver extension have a plum coloration. The engraving remains sharp with all of the gold inlay present. The wood is excellent with some scattered scratches and pressure dents. The case is very good.
