JOHN KITTELSON (b. 1930)
As a child John Kittelson had early exposure to sculpture, playing with wood toys hand-carved by his father. He went to California and then to the Black Hills where he worked as a horse trainer and bronc rider. He and his wife then settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and he was a carpenter and dabbled in painting and wood carving. In 1965, he sent in slides of his carvings to the Cowboy Artists of America and became one of the first fifteen members.
